Rural Naturalization: This home has some great views of Bozeman and the Bridger Mountains. A dated landscape was refreshed with defined perennial beds, refreshed shrubs and ornamental grasses, specimen trees, and a vast native meadow perimeter to reduce an expanse of lawn and soften the transition to the agricultural fields.
Open year-round, the Garden Barn is the perfect destination for gardening enthusiasts. Fall in love with their wide selection of house plants, bedding plants, custom pottery, metal art, garden statues and more. They are a whimsical gardening wonderland in Bozeman, MT. Owner, Josh Pecukonis, earned his Certified Plant Professional designation in 2013 while attending MSU. He is also a 2015 MNLA scholarship winner. In his scholarship application he stated his life goal was to open a greenhouse nursery where he could sell annuals, vegetables, herbs, cut and dried flowers, and perennials. He has achieved that goal and we are pleased to showcase his business on this tour.
A Modernized Family Farm: This multi-generational home is owned by a passionate gardener and it shows. The house received a thorough industrial modern renovation and the renovation of the front gardens followed suit while blending back to the natural surroundings. A wildflower meadow replaced the vast front lawn, topography was introduced and celebrated, raised steel connects the architecture to the landscape, boulders and stone pull the natural environment in close, depth and scale are profound, and the plant palette is a bit edgy.
Montana State University – We will enjoy lunch at the Rendezvous Dining Hall followed by a campus tour by E. J. Hook.
The Delaney homeis a property on Wilson Street in downtown Bozeman. The project was started in 2006 when the 1900’s era home was remodeled and expanded. The property encompasses ½ a city block and includes a European influenced formal garden with reflecting pool as well as a recently completed solarium which will be landscaped this summer.
The Cannery District - In 1912, the Gallatin Valley was known as the “pea capital of the nation,” producing 75% of the nation’s crop. The Bozeman Canning Company was founded in 1917 and opened in the summer of 1918, canning peas, beans, and carrots. Development in Bozeman’s revitalized “Cannery District” began about 10 years ago, turning the old pea canning facility into what is now a hub for local businesses. The Cannery is a unique commercial landscape with an emphasis on diverse plantings. The tour will visit bioswales, native grass and wildflower seedings, and areas planted with seasonal displays of perennials and ornamental grasses.
Vance – What started as an attempt at “Hugel” gardening has turned into a hidden gem. Several years of dedicated work and a great love of fardening by the owner has turned this into a eautiful place. Almost an acre of space has been fully used to create this eden. There is an in ground greenhouse with amenities, a small pond, and many paths to wander. Come and learn just what it has takeen to build this project.
Story Mill Community Park - This community minded project has been an honor for Greater Gallatin Landscape Contractors to work on. With all the amenities it has to offer such as state of the art playgrounds, a food forest, a learning by community garden, an amphitheater and a labyrinth; we are sure that generations to come with be able to enjoy the hard work so many contributed to make this park what it is.
Gardening Under the Big Sky –Jennifer and Jack Weiss: 26 years ago I stood next to my husband and made a promise. For a while I was able to keep that promise, but then I was lured into something I couldn't stop. It was an addiction. I started out quietly, sneaking when he wasn't home, hiding the evidence, but it was soon noticeable that the lawn was growing in size and there were more and more trees to mow around. Flower beds sprang out of nowhere. Soon we had a veritable park and had to get a bigger riding mower. Come and enjoy our oasis. Stroll around and rest a spell on one of our many benches that offer views of the whole valley. Feed the chickens and say hello to George, our guinea fowl. Check out our brand new deer fence that covers the whole 20 acres. We look forward to seeing you! (just please don't ask my husband how much time he spends mowing and trimming)
